Singapore the Garden City

Despite my sometimes snarky remarks, I really do appreciate Singapore's emphasis on greenery. The climate definitely helps--things grow very well here--but I have never seen another city with such abundant, well-maintained plant life.
These photos are a typical example of Singapore's open space. Right between a freeway and an abandoned housing development, it's hardly prime real estate. In the US, this would be a garbage-filled wasteland. I am especially impressed by the trees, which are so large! (The landscapers must have deliberately saved them when constructing the buildings etc.)
