R Is Two Months Old

Today is R's two month birthday, since she was born on Feb. 15th. It's incredible to think that I have only known her for two short months. It's also incredible to see how much she has grown and developed since she was born, when she slept almost all the time and was basically in a grub-like stage (but a cute little grub!).

Now she is awake and alert for hours every day, and seems to really be observing what she sees, carefully watching people, checking out the apartment, and getting curious. She smiles now, especially when she wakes up in the morning to greet me, and will wave her little arms in glee if she sees something especially exciting, like her favorite mobile. She has so much more control over her appendages (before it seemed to be just reflexes that moved them), and can stick her hand in her mouth, raise and turn her head all around, and kick her legs strongly. She can also lift up her head when lying on her stomach, but she doesn't do this often because she still hates hates hates tummy time and screams bloody murder if she is in that position for more than a minute or two.

She is still a pretty calm baby, easy to console most of the time, who doesn't get upset that easily (except by tummy time and her reflux medicine). She spends a lot more time now in quiet alert mode, so she likes to be where she can see the action (on a blanket, in her bouncer, being held). Being by herself out of the line of sight makes her sad and she will cry whenever this happens. I am starting to see glimmers of a personality but it's too early to tell what it is.

Physically, she is so much bigger and fatter! None of her newborn clothes fit any more (sad because most of them were so cute), and she has gained at least 4 pounds, probably closer to 5. She has numerous fat rolls on her legs, a double chin and a little belly. When I think of how her skin used to be wrinkled like a shar-pei during the first week of her life, it's really amazing. She still has some hair, but has lost most of it off the top and sides: now it looks a little like a mohawk, combined with a mullet. Her eyes are still blue (hope she keeps this) but her eyelashes are much longer and are now ridiculously long and dark, making her look like she is wearing mascara.

I liked That Wife's posts on her child, so I will copy them for little R.

Nicknames: R__fur, Little Fur, Bunny bun bun, Little Pooper, Fussbudget
Temperament: Calm and mellow; you like looking around and thinking your baby thoughts; you are sleeping better in longer periods now: usually you go to bed by 8 pm and sleep until 8 am (though you still wake up every 3-4 hours)
Things I Could Do Without: Your still-explosive and frequent poops, where you soil multiple outfits, your blankets and your bouncer, especially when you do this in the middle of the night; I also don't like it when you poop on me, the floor and the changing table as soon as your diaper comes off: why do you wait until you can cause maximum mess?
Item/Toy We Love the Most: Your bouncer: you will happily sit in it for hours as long as we rock you
Item/Toy You Love the Most: Tie between the bouncer and the mobile over your changing table: you smile every time you see it
Things I'm Loving Most Right Now: Your long, long eyelashes; all your delighted gummy smiles in the morning and when I play with you; your sly smile which makes you look like you are plotting evil; dressing you up: you look cute in everything!; you going to sleep easily most of the time; holding your little warm fat body in my arms; baby tai chi movements with your hands; watching you observe the world; seeing how much you are developing
Things You're Loving Most Right Now: Eating: this makes you happy every single time now that your reflux is better; getting your diaper changed (you are so delighted when this happens); being bounced, the harder/stronger the better; your pacifier; when daddy dances you
